I arrived at work with in an excited state of apprehension as I knew my colleague was waiting with a copy of The Herald (11th May) and a bag of Jam Doughnuts in case it all went pear-shaped!
The reason for my mixed feeling was due to the fact I was having an interview and picture published in the paper, as much as I was eager and proud to see it, I was also nervous: would it look and read ok?!
I am pleased to say that I think it did – after I got over the initial embarrassment of having all my colleagues round me as I opened it to the page. The whole situation has been very surreal..............
I was emailed by the Head of Marketing at the City of Glasgow College last week to ask if I would be willing to do an interview with The Herald. I studied a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing at the college and my course co-ordinator put me forward as an advocate of the course. Naturally, I was happy to help...
I said “no problem” to do the interview but I was not going to be in the office till the following week (small matter of a booked holiday to Paris in between times!)
I came back to an email with the interview questions listed and then received a phone call from the photographer to say he was coming in to see me that day. As you can imagine, when you’re not expecting a ‘close-up’ for a national newspaper some preparation is needed: first port of call was a quick trip to a mirror to apply some lippy; which I duly done.
Overall, the whole interview process was quick and easy and I am really quite proud of, not only the resulting article, but the reason why I was interviewed in the first place. All in all. I rather like having my photo and name in a national newspaper!
